Nan Zhang was born in Shanghai, China, in 1942. He graduated from the Central
Institute of Fine Arts in Beijing, and studied for a year at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in
Paris. After teaching at the Central Institute for several years, he visited Montreal,
Canada, in 1988 and decided to settle there with his wife and two sons to pursue his
painting full time. His works on canvas have been regularly exhibited in eastern Canada,
notably at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In 1993, he wrote and illustrated his first
children's book, A Little Tiger in the Chinese Night: An Autobiography in Art. It
won the Mr. Christie's Book Award. |
