The story of the female general, Mulan,
was originally a folk song dating from the Northern Wei dynasty,
A.D.386-534.
According to legend, there was a young woman named Mulan whose
aged father was conscripted. Mulan, unwilling to see her father
fighting in a war, disguised herself as a man and joined the
army in his place.
